The PFD wildland division is tasked with the prevention, mitigation and suppression of wildfires that threaten the Community of Munds Park. In order to accomplish this mission, two areas have been identified as primary goals.
This focus is the top priority of the Wildland Division. Over the years, the PFD has been very successful in educating our community about the dangers of wildfire and ways to protect their properties using Firewise Principles. We have intagrated with the local C.E.R.T. group, the PFD auxiliary, and the local Neighborhood Watch program. The cooperation between the PFD and these organizations has lead to the creation of The Munds Park Firewise Community, the annual Firewise/ Kids Safety Day and a safer community.
The surrounding forest and the private lots in Munds Park are very over grown and provide a dangerous environment for wildfires. The simple science behind this overgrown state is that these excess trees act as additional fuel that causes wildfires to grow exponentially and become unstoppable forces of destruction. The goal of the PFD is to reduce this threat by reducing this extra "fuel" so when fires start they do not become out of control. The homeowner has a great resource to help with this problem. The PFD has teamed up with some other Fire agencies and created the BEAR JAW Fire and Fuels Crew. The Bar Jaw crew can perform an Assessment and complete a treatment for your property that will help mitigate this problem.
