The History of Pinewood Fire District
The Pinewood Volunteer Association was formed in 1973, becoming a Special Fire
District in 1976. The Fire District day-to-day operations are the responsibility
of Fire Chief, David L. Huizenga, and are overseen by a 5-person elected
Board of Directors.
Our Fire District boundaries are the community of Munds Park.
Our Ambulance Service area is the same location plus 5 miles each side of Interstate
17 from Stoneman Lake exit at Mile Post 306 North to Kelly Canyon exit at Mile
Post 331.
The Fire District has an ISO rating of 5. We are a combination paid and volunteer
fire department, providing fire suppression and emergency medical services.
Station Manning:
We have three shifts which consist of one Captain, one Engineer, and two Firefighters. There is a minimum of one ALS certified person on duty 24 hours a day, our minimum staffing is three firefighters.
During the daytime hours and weekdays, the Fire Chief is available for emergency
responses. The volunteer staff are available by radio. We have seen many
changes since 2000 one of which going from a 1 person crew to a 4 person
crew.
